Description: the Oasi Costiera (‘Coastal Oasis’) extends for 12 kilometres and covers the entire coastline of the Province of Forlì-Cesena.
The Oasis area as a whole presents extremely interesting characteristics, especially from October to March, for the residence and transit of pelagic species of avifauna and is of considerable interest for the nesting and migratory stopover of various bird species.
The Rubicone River falls within the Oasis area for a length of about 700 metres, extending from the shaft to the river mouth.
The Rubicone River represents an incredible naturalistic treasure chest for the presence of the lake species that populate it, such as the Moorhen, the River Warbler, the Reed Warbler, the Reed Warbler, the Sedge Warbler and the Kingfisher. The thick vegetation of phragmites that surrounds it is the favourite area of Little Bitterns, Herons and Little Egrets. At the mouth, grebes, cormorants and resting Anatidae are always present.

Main activities carried out within the Coastal Oasis:
– protection of nesting Fratino (Charadrius alexandrinus), a small bird living in silty or sandy coastal environments;
– study of bird migration on behalf of Ispra (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) at 2 ringing stations;
– scientific ringing courses;
– protection of the pelagic species especially in the winter period;
– guided tours for schools;
– use of the watchtower at the mouth of the Rubicon river for birdwatching activities;
– lectures given by expert biologists and wildlife specialists on bird migration and environmental conservation and protection, aimed at students participating in European Community Erasmus projects.
