Place: Gatteo – Arena del Castello
Period: from 13th June to 25th Juli 2024
Time: 9.30 pm
Accessibility: by car
Description: the Culture Department of the Gatteo Municipality is once again proposing a summer theatrical review taking place within the walls of the Rocca Malatestiana in Gatteo. The title recalls the castle in which Shakespeare’s Hamlet takes place and in which, as is well known, a number of wandering actors are hosted to put on a play; so these are the elements that are concentrated in the word Elsinore: a castle, theatre and hospitality.
The characteristic of the review is to have a common thread, namely spoken word theatre, but at the same time to explore it in all its forms, offering a wide range of performances: narrative theatre, the actor’s interpretation of a character, science popularisation, comedy theatre.
On the stage of the atmospheric Arena del Castello, already established artists alternate with others not yet known to the general public, with a view to offering as rich an offer as possible but also respecting both the generational mix and the opportunity for new and younger performers.
For the summer of 2024, the festival, curated by the Cooperativa Sillaba, in its sixth edition consists of seven live performance events taking place every Thursday evening from June, 13th to Juli, 25th.
Programme 2024:
Thursday 13 June
VITO in “L’altezza delle lasagne. Monologo di sopravvivenza gastronomica”
By Francesco Freyrie and Andrea Zalone. Dramaturgical adaptation by Daniele Sala.
In the new One Man Show Vito takes us to a terrain dear to him, that of food and cooking, in a hilarious and merciless excursus on the unhealthy and perverse relationship between man and the stovetop. The show everyone who loves to cook should see.
Wednesday 19 June
MARIA AMELIA MONTI in “La lavatrice del cuore”
With musical accompaniment by Federico Hodling. Edited by Edoardo Erba.
Adoption told through the testimonies of those who experienced it directly or indirectly. From the letters collected for the 2013 Letter of an Adoption category, comes La Lavatrice del cuore, a play written by Edoardo Erba and performed by Maria Amelia Monti. The story of Edoardo and Maria Amelia’s experience is placed side by side with that of other couples, of fathers and mothers who recount their own journey, in an alternation between prose and reading of great intensity whose ironic moments are not lacking.
Thursday 27 June
CAMILLO GRASSI in “Il condor”
By Gianni Clementi. Directed by Massimo Venturiello.
“Il condor” is a text about cycling, experienced by the gregario. The gregario, in sports jargon, is the one assigned to help the captain. He has to rescue him in moments of crisis, pull the sprint. In short, he must immolate himself for the glory of another. He is paid for it. But who, in his life, has never thought of winning at least once? Who has never dreamed of crossing the finish line first?
Thursday 4 July
DENIS CAMPITELLI in “Fat jazz”
From the poems and short stories of Giovanni Nadiani.
Short stories, set in today’s Romagna, written by Giovanni Nadiani, told and performed as a jazz solo. A mutant anthropology told in Italian and dialect
Thursday 11 July
MASSIMO POLIDORO in “Un senso di meraviglia”
Lectio-spectacle from the book “The Wonder of Everything. Conversations with Piero Angela.”
If we look around us, so many things seem senseless. Where do we come from? Why are we here? What is the point of everything we do? Where do we end up? These are the questions that ancient philosophers asked themselves and that Massimo Polidoro was fortunate enough to be able to submit to someone with an extraordinary mind like Piero Angela. Out of their conversations, and a friendship that has lasted more than 30 years, came “The Wonder of Everything,” Piero Angela’s latest book
Thursday 18 July
TERESA CINQUE in “Trigger contro trigger“
Directed by Simona Nasi
Who would ever think that feeling ugly is a political issue? And that a gap in vocabulary could result as an attempt to remove female pleasure? Who has noticed that one’s consideration of old age changes whether one is a man or a woman? Teresa Cinque, of course, who shows us how these phenomena are harbingers of worldviews strongly imbued with patriarchal prejudices. Feminism here is declined in its everyday applications as well as inequality is identified in the small gestures and encrusted habits that the ironic twist tries to peel away. Couples, sexuality, double standards, beauty and gender stereotypes are the main topics
Thursday 25 July
ROBERTO MERCADINI in “Moby Dick. Narrazione da Melville”
Moby Dick does not tell a story. It is not a novel. Perhaps not even a book. It is a monster that stands among other written volumes as the white Leviathan stands among other sea creatures. Moby Dick cannot be told, “though many have tried” (to quote Melville). What, then, can a narrator do with it (and in the time of a narrative)? He can at least shine a few glowing fragments; hint, by synthesis, at the whole light, the whole heat of the magma.
Entrance: €16.00; €8.00 for under 16 and residents of the Municipality of Gatteo
