– Level III (3-star badge): lessons to perfect swimming and rescue techniques using the fly and practising cardiopulmonary reanimation;
– Level IV (4-star badge) and Level V (5-star badge): lessons to develop the skills and abilities of a “water rescuer”.
After completing Level V, children can take courses to become assistant instructors and instructors.
Programme
Participants spend six mornings a week attending lessons in the sea to improve their water skills or perfect their swimming, as well as theory lessons to learn about “safety at sea”: they will be taught when to go or not to go in the water, how to do the sailing knots, how to use the wind rose, how to recognize dangers occurring when in water like tides for example or what to do on a red flag day.
Moreover, children will learn resuscitation and first aid techniques and, by means of dummies, they’ll put them into practice; in addition to this, children will train off-shore on a “mini rescue pedalo” .
The main purpose of these activities is teaching children the values of solidarity, civic-mindedness, as well as the importance of being of help when people are in danger.
There are five levels of training for the children, distinguished by the number of stars on their T-shirts.
Beginners, at the first level, often do not yet know how to swim, while at the second and third levels, they are already more familiar with the water. At the end of the third level, the children have perfected their swimming and lifesaving techniques, know how to perform CPR and use a rescue float.
Finally, at levels IV and V, participants learn water rescue techniques.
The children are supervised by qualified instructors who are on hand all week to look after the young learners.
The lifeguard course for children belongs to a series of sporting activities organised by the A.S.D. Delphinos association and is open to all young tourists and residents.
Requirements for registration: a medical certificate of good health or a green sports booklet is required. Age of participants: from 5 years old
