This bell tower represents the remains of one of the oldest churches in Gatteo: Sant’Antonio Abate (Saint Anthony the Abbot). The church was built in 1467 or perhaps even earlier and it was destroyed in 1944 during the bombing of the Second World War. Annexed to the church there was a hospital, which later became a congregation of charity.
