Description: every Autumn, Sant’Angelo di Gatteo is animated by the town fair known as ‘Palio dei Barrocci’. The fair is 11 days long, fully devolved to great food, great music and even greater company.
The programme includes but is not limited to comedy shows, concerts, children’s entertainment, exhibitions, fireworks and, naturally, a food stand rich of the many Romagna’s traditional specialties.

You might be wondering: what’s interesting about this fair? Unique means of transportation called ‘barroccio’.
The first barroccio was created many years ago by a friend group and their love for new challenges. With the help of their manual skills and their creativity, they embarked on a smart and exciting project. Indeed, they hand-crafted an original vehicle by welding a wooden board to small wheels and some handlebars. The first barroccio prototype was born.
Then, these friends started racing each other along the town streets thanks to this new vehicle. This was the beginning of the Palio, sparked by passion for community and the joy of playing together.
As the years have passed, Palio dei Barrocci has grown bigger and bigger, and the town of Sant’Angelo even split up in smaller groups, ‘borgate’, which practise together waiting to show off their speed and skills. May the best win the Trofeo del Palio dei Barrocci!
