Programme
Every participant will attend four group lessons per week (two lessons a day), from Monday to Saturday. In the morning, children will train in the water to improve their water skills, as well as their swimming techniques. Late in the afternoon, children and teenagers will learn the theory and practice of safety at sea: they will be taught when to go or not to go in the water, how to do the sailing knots, how to use the wind rose, how to recognize dangers occurring when in water like tides for example or what to do on a red flag day.
Moreover, children will learn resuscitation and first aid techniques and, by means of dummies, they’ll put them into practice; in addition to this, children will train off-shore on a “mini rescue pedalo” .
The main purpose of these activities is teaching children the values of solidarity, civic-mindedness, as well as the importance of being of help when people are in danger.
The course is divided into 5 training levels, represented by five different coloured t-shirts. Children who can’t swim yet will attend the 1st level classes (white T-shirt), while children who already can swim a little will attend the 2nd level classes (blue t-shirt) . At the end of the third level (orange t-shirt), children will be able to take the scuba diving exam (depth: 2 metres). Children attending the 4th level classes (pink t-shirts) will be already qualified for rescue and they will be able to take the scuba diving exam (depth: 4 meters).Children who spend just one week for holidays in Gatteo a Mare can attend the “FULL IMMERSION” course: 5 days a week, swimming classes in the morning and theory classes in the evening. In order to upgrade, children will have to pass the theory and practice examination; anyway, constant training is necessary to keep up with the obtained level. Children will be taught by qualified instructors.
The lifeguard course for children belongs to a series of sport activities organized by A.S.D. Delphinos and open to all tourists, residents and anyone who wants to keep
