Description: the municipality of Gatteo has joined “M’illumino di Meno” (I’m using less light) campaign, the Italian annual awareness-raising day started in 2005 by Radio Rai 2 program “Caterpillar” and designed to focus attention on energy saving/wastage.
By joining “M’illumino di Meno” campaign, the Councilors responsible for Environment and Culture aim to raise environmental awareness in the community and emphasize the importance of a sustainable life-style. Therefore, they invite all the citizens to take part to this initiative and follow the tips suggested by Caterpillar and to suggest and post new ideas.

Here you will find ten tips to help you save energy and money:
1. turn off lights when not needed
2. turn off and do not leave on standby electronic devices
3. frequently defrost the refrigerator, keep the coil clean and away from the wall so that air can circulate
4. put the lid on pans when water is boiling and avoid the flame is wider than the bottom of the pot
5. if you feel too hot at home, lower the radiators instead of opening the windows
6. reduce drafts of the fixtures filling them with material that air can’t pass through
7. use curtains to create spaces in front of glass, windows, outside doors
8. do not leave curtains closed in front of radiators
9. insert special insulating and reflective films between walls and radiators
10. use the car as little as possible and if necessary share it.
In 2022, with a vote in Parliament, M’illumino di Meno became ‘Giornata nazionale del risparmio energetico e degli stili di vita sostenibili’ (National Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles Day).
The Day is celebrated on 16 February each year. It is a celebration of respect for the environment and the drive towards a sustainable future. Join in!

Symbolic switching off of the public lighting in the three main squares of the town: Piazza Vesi in Gatteo, Piazza Fracassi in Sant’Angelo, Piazza della Libertà in Gatteo Mare.
